International Accounting Day celebrated
On November 11, 2024, the Department of Accounting and Auditing at the II. Ferenc Rákóczi Transcarpathian Hungarian College of Higher Education, in collaboration with the Accounting and Taxation Committee of the institution’s Vocational High School, organized its seventh career orientation event in honor of International Accounting Day for students of undergraduate programs (Accounting and Taxation and Financial Security), the master’s program (International Accounting and Taxation), and the Accounting and Taxation program at the Vocational High School. This year’s event, held under the motto “Scientific counseling in the service of society”, was organized as part of the program series celebrating the Day of Hungarian Science.
The event was opened by Prof. Dr. István Csernicskó, rector of Rákóczi College, who emphasized the importance of the accounting profession in today’s world:
“The field of accounting is not only the language of business but also the foundation of trust that underpins the development of society. Thanks to the expertise of accountants, we achieve the economic balance that enables business growth, ensures increased employment, and enhances the well-being of citizens.”
Dr. Katalin Soós, director of the Rákóczi College’s Vocational High School, in her welcoming speech, wished all attendees to find professional satisfaction in the event and discussions. She emphasized that “the accounting profession is one of the key and most sought-after professions in today’s society. The role of accountants is not limited to calculation and bookkeeping; they are the professionals who determine financial stability, ensuring transparency in organizational activities and the successful management of resources.”
The event’s program consisted of two parts: an interactive and a career orientation segment. First, the moderators presented the origins of the accounting profession. Understanding the history of accounting adds value to today’s professionals, as it allows them to gain a deeper understanding of the development and significance of the profession across different eras.
The next phase of the event program was an interactive online game on the modern quiz online platform, characterized by a collaborative atmosphere fueled by competitive spirit and entertainment. Participants had the opportunity to answer real-time statistical quiz questions using their devices. The most active participants were rewarded with gifts, serving as a delightful encouragement and a great conclusion to this part of the event.
Afterward, the students took on the roles of famous historical figures who began their careers in accounting: J. P. Morgan, John Rockefeller, Frank Mason Robinson, Elizabeth Arden, Al Capone, Frank Wilson, and Janet Jackson. The actors approached the task creatively, with their performances enhanced by excellent musical arrangements and intriguing historical facts.
As part of the career orientation section of the event, a meeting and discussion took place with representatives from science and business. This provided students with the opportunity to learn about the modern requirements of the profession from different perspectives.
The representatives from the academic field, Dr. habil. Attila Rózsa and Dr. Alexandra Szekeres from the Faculty of Economics at the University of Debrecen, emphasized the importance of close collaboration between science and business. They pointed out that such cooperation creates favorable conditions for implementing innovative solutions. The interaction with the practical environment enables students to prepare for the real challenges of professional life and helps them gain the necessary experience during their studies.
From the business sector, Attila Vigyikán, the founder of DinoPark, and Péter Huszár, the president of the Association of Young Hungarian Entrepreneurs in Transcarpathia, spoke at the event. They approached the importance of the accounting profession from a leadership perspective, emphasizing the significant impact of this field on business processes. The guests highlighted the need for continuous development and updating of accounting knowledge, citing that the modern labor market requires the understanding of economic trends and quickly adaptation to changes.
The meeting took place in an active atmosphere, with discussions accompanied by interesting real-life examples that left a positive and unforgettable impression on the participants.
High school students were also invited to the event. Students from three educational institutions – the Lajos Kossuth Lyceum in Beregszász, the Gábor Bethlen Lyceum in Beregszász, and Ilona Zrínyi Lyceum in Beregszász – participated with the goal of learning about the modern requirements for professionals and career development opportunities in the economic sector.
“Such events not only broaden the perspectives of young people but also develop their critical thinking and social responsibility. This comprehensive education lays the foundation for the future society, where professionals not only carry out their tasks but also shape, transform, and develop the country,”
emphasized Gábor Pataki, assistant professor at the Department of Accounting and Auditing.
Dr. Gabriella Loszkorih, deputy head of the Department of Accounting and Auditing at the college, emphasized that “such events allow students to gain practical insights into their future profession, better understand its characteristics, and familiarize themselves with the professional requirements. Additionally, events like these facilitate the establishment of connections with potential employers, who can share their own experiences and achievements, inspiring young people to develop in their field.”
Thank you to the organizers, guests, representatives of the Student Council of Rákóczi College, and all participants for their contribution to the celebration of International Accounting Day. This was a wonderful opportunity to honor the work of those who, through their expertise and commitment, support the stability and development of the economy every day.
