8th English Academic Student Conference
On May 21, 2024, the English Language and Literature Department Group of the College’s Department of Philology held its traditional student conference, where usually 2nd and 3rd year undergraduate students present their research results.
As Dr. Gyula Fodor, vice- rector of our college, said in his opening speech, the student conference has been organized annually by the English Department Group since 2015. In the time that has passed, it was cancelled twice due to objective reasons (in 2020 due to COVID-19, while in 2022 due to the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war), however, it is commendable that students show interest in scientific research even in such difficult times as we are living today. The presentations covered a variety of topics, we could hear about distance learning as a current phenomenon, online vocabulary learning and teaching, the role of didactic games in the language class, the applicability of artificial intelligence in the process of planning foreign language lessons, and the role of literature in motivating language learners, as well as the importance and significance of William Shakespeare and about the difficulties encountered during the translation of the heroic epic “Beowulf”.
At the conference, which took place in an online format and in a family atmosphere, the speakers, as novice researchers, received a lot of useful advice regarding the presentation style and scientific content from the jury, chaired by prof. Marianna Lőrincz. Its members were dr. Ilona Lechner and dr. Béla Bárány.
The jury decided on the following result::
- 1st place Klaudia Barta (Year III English major, full-time student)
- 2nd place Andrea Lőrincz and Kamilla Kukri (Year III English major, full-time students)
- 3rd place Denisz-István Mészáros (Year III English major, correspondence student)
The winners received a certificate of achievement and a book prize.
Congratulations to all participants for their successful performance!
