A series of international courses on linguistics at the Ferenc Rakoczi II Transcarpathian College of Higher Education
The Ferenc Rakoczi II Transcarpathian College of Higher Education operates in a small town in western Ukraine, far from the capitals and large international university centres. However, even a small higher education institution cannot afford to be provincial. Unfortunately, we cannot take all of our instructors and all of our students to the best universities in the world to take courses there. What we can do is to bring the big international stars of linguistics here. That is why we started our series, in the framework of which we invite well-known linguists and recognized researchers and experts to introduce their results to the professors and students of our institution in the form of online courses. We want our students and educators to have the chance to learn directly from the leading experts in the field.
As part of our series launched in 2021, the following lecturers have so far held a 6-10 hour course each:
- Petteri Laihonen (University of Jyväskylä, Finland): Minority languages in Europe. 5 March, 2021.
- Anastassia Zabrodskaja (Tallinn University, Estonia): Linguistic Landscape Workshop. 9-10 February, 2022.
- K. „Jack” Chambers (University of Toronto, Canada): Language and Modern Social Forces. 16 December, 2022.
- Paul Kerswill (University of York, UK): The Rise of Urban Contact Dialects. May 12, 2023.
- Susan Gal (University of Chicago, USA): Language Variation and Change. 24 November, 2023.
- Naomi Nagy (University of Toronto, Canada): Minority Languages, Language Contact and Language Variation. 10 May, 2024.
- Dennis R. Preston (Oklahoma State University, USA): Language Variation and Change. 13 December, 2024.
