Record number of applicants at Rákóczi College
The admission procedure at the Ferenc Rákóczi II Transcarpathian Hungarian College of Higher Education has concluded, and the supplementary admission period will soon begin. This year, a record number of applicants submitted their applications, clearly reflecting the institution’s credibility and growing popularity. We asked Ildikó Greba, Executive Secretary of the Admissions Committee, about the experiences of this year’s admission process and the most important details of the supplementary admission.
– What programs could students apply for this year?
– As in previous years, in 2025 students could apply for both bachelor’s and master’s programs. Twenty-three programs were offered in full-time study, and sixteen in part-time study. The range included Ukrainian Language and Literature, Hungarian Language and World Literature, English Language and World Literature, Biology and Human Health, Geography, Chemistry, Mathematics, History, Primary and Preschool Education, Tourism, Accounting and Taxation, Natural Sciences, Computer Science, Finance, Banking, Insurance and Stock Exchange, as well as International Relations.
In addition, translation and interpretation programs (English–Hungarian, English–German, Ukrainian–Hungarian) were available, along with four new specializations: Physical Education Teacher, Music Teacher, Hungarian Language, Literature and Communication, and Horticulture and Landscape Design. Most of the listed programs are available in both full-time and part-time formats, with the exception of a few offered exclusively as full-time.
– Which programs attracted the greatest interest?
– The translation programs were once again very popular. In addition, Accounting and Taxation, Finance, Banking, Insurance and Stock Exchange, as well as English Language and Literature were among the most sought-after. Among the new programs, Hungarian Language, Literature and Communication (15 students) and Physical Education Teacher (20 students) also drew remarkable interest, which is an especially good result for newly launched programs.
At the master’s level, Preschool Education, Primary Education, English Language and Literature, Hungarian Language and World Literature, as well as Accounting and Taxation proved to be the most popular. Enrollment for these takes place between September 1 and 8.
– I understand that this year a record number of applicants submitted applications to the institution.
– Indeed, this year we accepted 999 applications, compared to 796 last year. Last year, 399 students enrolled in bachelor’s programs (211 full-time, 188 part-time). This year we have 468 enrollees, but we will be able to give precise figures after the supplementary admission beginning on September 1.
– How did the admission procedure take place? Were there any particular features or difficulties this year?
– Applicants submitted their applications through an electronic user account. A novelty this year was that, for the first time, a student could indicate up to 15 programs, ranking them in order of preference. Admission to bachelor’s programs was based on the results of the National Multidisciplinary Test (NMT), which applicants could complete between 2022 and 2025. In addition, it was mandatory to attach a motivation letter.
For master’s programs, the requirement was to hold a bachelor’s, specialist, or master’s diploma, and to pass the Unified Entrance Exam (ЄВІ). This was supplemented by the Unified Professional Entrance Test (ЄФВВ), which varied by specialization.
Applicants to the Biology and Biochemistry program, however, were required to take a separate subject-specific exam at the college in addition to the Unified Entrance Exam, while the Unified Professional Entrance Test was not required.

– From which institutions did most applications come?
– The majority of applicants came from the Ferenc Rákóczi II Transcarpathian Hungarian College of Higher Education’s Vocational High School, the Transcarpathian Hungarian Lyceum, the F. Potusnyak Lyceum in Beregszász, the Taras Shevchenko Lyceum in Beregszász, the Lajos Kossuth Lyceum in Beregszász, and the Sándor Sztojka Greek Catholic Lyceum in Karácsfalva.
– What should students know about the upcoming supplementary admission?
– The supplementary admission will take place from September 1 to 8. Applications can be submitted at vstup.edbo.gov.ua by creating an electronic user account. Admission will again be based on the NMT results. To ensure smooth administration, an Admissions Office operates within the Study Department of the college, where staff provide personal assistance to students.
The supplementary admission is announced for both full-time and part-time programs.
Full-time: Preschool Education, Primary Education, Music Teacher, Physical Education Teacher, History and Civic Studies, Geography, Biology and Human Health, Natural Sciences, English Language and World Literature, Ukrainian Language and Literature, Mathematics, Computer Science, English–Hungarian Translation and Interpretation, Hungarian Language, Literature and Communication, International Relations, Accounting and Taxation, Finance, Banking, Insurance and Stock Exchange, Horticulture and Landscape Design, Tourism and Recreation.
Part-time: Preschool Education, Primary Education, Geography, Natural Sciences, English Language and World Literature, Hungarian Language and World Literature, Ukrainian Language and Literature, Accounting and Taxation, Finance, Banking, Insurance and Stock Exchange, Tourism and Recreation.
– What advice would you give to young people preparing for the supplementary admission?
– The most important thing is not to leave the application until the last day. Check your user account regularly, because enrollment is only possible after receiving the official admission offer. If you encounter any difficulties, the staff of the Admissions Office will provide full assistance.
