Celebration of International Accountant Day
On November 22, 2023, the Department of Accounting and Auditing at the Ferenc Rakoczi II Transcarpathian Hungarian College of Higher Education, in collaboration with the cyclical commission “Accounting and Taxation” of the Ferenc Rakoczi II Transcarpathian Hungarian College’s Vocational High School, organized for the sixth time a professional orientation event dedicated to the International Accountant Day as part of the celebration of the Days of Hungarian Science. This year’s event took place under the motto “Science: Answers to Global Challenges.”
Addressing all participants with a welcoming speech, the president of Ferenc Rakoczi II Transcarpathian Hungarian College of Higher Education, Dr. Oros Ildiko, emphasized that
“the profession of an accountant is one of the precise and most needed in the modern world. It is impossible to imagine life without accounting, the language of business, as it is the source of trust demanded by society for continuous development.”
She wished all participants to derive professional satisfaction from the event and interaction.
The holiday program consisted of two parts: interactive and professional orientation.
Initially, education moderators provided insights into the origins of the accounting profession. Knowledge of the history of accounting expands the depth of understanding of the profession and ensures the formation of professional competencies. Studying the experience of previous generations serves as an important source of learning for modern future professionals.
Next, education participants took on the roles of well-known public figures who began their careers as accountants: Heinrich Schliemann, Elizabeth Arden, Al Capone, Frank Wilson, Mick Jagger, Janet Jackson. The actors approached the task quite creatively, reinterpreting all the roles in a new way. Each character received a new perspective, as the performances were accompanied by vibrant musical presentations and interesting historical facts.
The next stage of the event program was a virtual game using the modern online platform “Kahoot!”. Participants had the opportunity to compete with each other by providing answers to a statistical quiz in the digital space using their gadgets. The most active participants received sweet gifts!
The professional orientation component included a meeting and discussion with leaders from various sectors of the economy – Nagy Anna, the head of the Velikobihanska territorial community, and Olga Egreshi, the director of the “TRADEWELT” LLC. Guests talked about the importance of the accounting profession from the perspective of leaders, emphasizing the current social significance of the accounting profession itself. It is worth noting that without an accountant, a business cannot exist. In today’s economic conditions, when the economy is developing rapidly, every respectable institution requires a highly qualified specialist. Without exaggeration, it can be argued that an accountant is the partner of the manager, his right hand. The profit and fate of the staff, and often the entire company, often depend on their qualifications, education, responsibility, and professionalism. The discussion was lively, active, with interesting life examples, leaving unforgettable positive impressions of the meeting. Communication with potential employers is useful for education participants as it allows them to see the prospects of the future profession and encourages active mastery of a complex of professionally oriented knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to be competitive professionals, successfully perform their duties, and self-realize.
At the end of the program, education participants presented their own TikTok video clips on the theme: “A day in the life of a modern accountant.”
“In fact, such events are very important both for education participants who see the essence of the future profession from a practical point of view and for potential employers who can share their experience and achievements in their work. We support the professional and scientific self-identification of students, which is a determinant of the formation of their professional self-awareness,”
noted the director of the Vocational High School, Dr. Soos Katalin.
The head of the Department of Accounting and Auditing at the Ferenc Rakoczi II Transcarpathian Hungarian College of Higher Education, Prof. Dr. Robert Bacho, emphasized:
“Such events ensure the most important thing – the upbringing of worthy citizens, well-rounded personalities with a broad outlook, a high level of intelligence, capable of adapting to the requirements of modern life, highly qualified specialists who could implement new perspectives in the economy, using social activity and a creative approach to task execution.”
