Position of the Ferenc Rakoczi II Transcarpathian Hungarian College of Higher Education on the use of artificial intelligence (AI)
The Ferenc Rakoczi II Transcarpathian Hungarian College of Higher Education does not prohibit or oppose the use of the increasingly widespread and expanding algorithms of artificial intelligence, neither for its teachers nor for its students. However, based on the international experience so far, we consider it important to emphasize that the use of AI algorithms is recommended only and exclusively within ethical frameworks.
The various AI tools should be seen as an opportunity, but not used in a way that replaces or substitutes independent student work. When AI algorithms are used, all responsibility rests with the student, i.e. if the student uses the AI-generated text without checking, and the lecturer gives a lower grade or does not accept the work because of errors in the text, the student cannot complain. Students are required to indicate in their work which AI algorithm was used (with the date, e.g. “The text was generated by ChatGPT on 2 February 2024”).
Lecturers who are also engaged in scientific research may also use AI tools, both in education and in academia, but the use of AI in the generation of data, results, texts must be clearly indicated in their publications, and it is forbidden to hide the use of AI algorithms in the communication of scientific results.
