He went a career journey from Army Officer to Managing Director (MD), McKinsey Consultant, and Chief Productive Officer (CPO) and to Consultant, Trainer and Coach, helping businesses to transform their procurement function. During 2012-2014, Mr. Richard Beaumont obtained a position of Vice President Central Procurement at Rolls-Royce plc.

Mr. Richard shared his own experience with the students, revealed the meaning and role of the purchasing function in the company. An important aspect of the trainings was the focus on the cultural aspects of communication in business, the ability to negotiate, and the formation of teamwork skills. The topic of using artificial intelligence in modern conditions was not overlooked as well.

Even alarm signals did not prevent training, during which classes continued in the bomb shelter. Mr. Richard Beaumont skillfully held the attention of the audience and involved each participant in activities and practical cases, analyzing the behavior of the participants and giving an opportunity to rethink the role of social and communicative skills (soft skills) in the future profession.

The Department of Accounting and Audit is sincerely grateful to Mr. Richard Beaumont for the visit to the institution as well as for the opportunities for further cooperation, which will be implemented within the framework of the perspective MOU.

Feedback from students participating in the trainings:

The speaker’s lecture and personal examples not only made the session enjoyable, but also ensured that everyone gained valuable insights into the world of business communication and effective ways of using artificial intelligence. We all gained fresh insights that go beyond traditional studies. The speaker`s explanation was particularly remarkable as it gave us innovative perspectives on how to properly integrate AI tools into our college activities and highlighted the importance of knowing the cultural background essential for business negotiations, enriching our knowledge and insights.”

Tamás Fodor, the 1st year, BSc,
Secondary education (language and world literature (English))

During the speaker’s speech, we were enriched with professional advice and knowledge, which are integral components of a successful entrepreneur and financial expert. As part of our professional training, we were not limited to only theoretical foundations: we considered numerous economic situational issues, which expanded our knowledge. The information obtained here allows us to successfully cope with real situations, helping to develop in the field of entrepreneurship and finance”.

Szintia Barta, the 1st year, BSc,
Accounting & Taxation

For me, the presentation was very interesting and meaningful. I liked the fact that the speaker gave examples from his own life and shared his experience with us. We also did some interesting tasks that highlighted the importance of communication and different cultural backgrounds. I hope to have the opportunity to attend similar lectures again”.

Angéla Máté, 1st year, BSc,
Secondary education (language and world literature (English))

In my opinion, the presentation given by the lecturer was excellently structured, as we were able to observe the received information in practice. During the classes, we tried numerous situational games, which were aimed, first of all, at developing our communication skills and the ability to solve certain situations. And while I particularly enjoyed the practical focus of the class, I also think it’s important to note that we benefited from being able to hear such a presentation in English”.

Eleonóra Márcenyuk, 4th year, BSc,
Accounting & Taxation

In my opinion, the conducted trainings became a good experience for us, because during his speeches the lecturer also conducted various interactive sessions, which allowed us not only to learn the discussed topics, but also to try them in practice. We have heard about value, which does not always have a financial component, but can significantly affect the final result. We were also able to experience the 10 ways of persuasion in communication that the lecturer talked about playing with each other in an interactive game in a practical exercise, which I think was very informative. We were able to feel the importance of teamwork and how important it is to convey the right information. In addition, the lecturer explained the advantages of AI and the use of Chat GPT. I am glad that such a respectable person was able to come from afar, and we had the opportunity to hear his lectures”.

Mr. Beaumont, talked about teamwork. Teams, as dynamic units within organizations, have proven to be essential players in translating cultural values into tangible results. The importance of effective team dynamics was emphasized, as cohesive teams are not only more adaptable, but also better equipped to exploit the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The lecturer emphasized to us to use AI wisely. Mr. Beaumont stated that using AI is not bad, but we always have to remember, that it will never replace a human. Many students use it in the west, thou in our college it’s not as widely spread as in other colleges or universities.

Mr. Beaumont encouraged us to start our own businesses, being brave and overcoming all of the difficulties we face. Eventually, when we succeed, it will be a huge achievement and a great accomplishment. If we fail, we should start again. We have all of the help in the world.

Overall, this was a marvelous lecture. Mr. Beaumont encouraged us to follow our dreams and study hard, so we can get the knowledge, which we need for our future plans”.

Milán Rácz, 2nd year, BSc,
Secondary Education (Language and Literature (English))

Mr. Richard Beaumont’s lecture and practicals were fascinating and informative. We got a sense that, while accountants often try to find solutions in detail and precision, he used simpler, creative approaches that showed problems and their solutions from a new angle. Mr. Beaumont’s assignments encouraged us to look at some situations from a different perspective. For example, tasks with a reverse approach to reducing costs and convincing a partner to justify their interests were extremely interesting for me. They showed that traditionally seen problems can also have another aspect that we have not considered before, and that people’s convictions can be based not only on hard logical arguments, but also on understanding and concurrence of interests. Mr. R. Beaumont’s examples were inspiring as they highlighted the importance of innovative and creative thinking in developing business strategies and solving problems”.

Noémi Márkus, 2nd year, MSc,

I am deeply grateful to our department for the opportunity to meet and hear such respectable people with invaluable experience as Mr. Richard Beaumont. The fact that such a successful person can share with us his secrets in business communication and life is priceless. The main thing I learned is that we can be a little “evil, or weird” and imperfect to form new ideas”.

The opportunity to communicate with a native speaker in a foreign language is a chance to test our abilities and communication skills.
