The National Assembly of Hungarians has ended

Organized by the National Defence Free University Foundation, the National Assembly of Hungarians (MOGY) was held for the ninth time from August 11th to 13th, 2023. The event took place at the Ópusztaszer National Heritage Park. The purpose of the event was to strengthen the crisis-resistant capacity of the Hungarian people and showcase the diversity of Hungarian culture.

The closing day of the event took place on August 13th.

The day began with a reformed church service, followed by various thematic presentations for the attendees. During the program series, the Ferenc Rakoczi II Transcarpathian Hungarian College of Higher Education and the units established by the institution were introduced. Attendees had the opportunity to become acquainted with the activities of our college, the Pro Cultura Subcarpathica civil organization, the “GENIUS” Charity Foundation, the Tulipán Tanoda Hungarian School of Folk Music and Folk Art, the “Rákóczi-tour” Tourist Information Center, the Ede Egán Vocational Training Center, the P. Frangepán Katalin Grammar School and the Carpathian Hungarian Lyceum.

The book titled “Struggle for Survival: Hungarians in Transcarpathia (1944-2022)” was also presented. Furthermore, attendees could participate in workshops showcasing Transcarpathian folklore, traditional costumes, folk songs and children’s games. In addition to all this, our college offered a full-day film screening related to Transcarpathia. Attendees had the opportunity to watch the film “Satan’s bastard”, based on the work of Zoltán Mihály Nagy, and engage in a meet-and-greet with Viktoria Tarpai, the main actress of the Transcarpathian Regional Hungarian Drama Theatre, winner of the Jászay Mari Prize. Additionally, two films from 21TV Ungvár were presented – “Sentenced to life,” a documentary about KMKSZ, and “The oak tree,” a documentary about the birth of the Ferenc Rakoczi II Transcarpathian Hungarian College of Higher Education.

On the closing day, children’s games and craft workshops were held at the pavilion of the Pro Cultura Subcarpathica civil organization.
