The Day of Hungarian Culture and the Day of Unity of Ukraine were celebrated in the schools and kindergartens of the P. Katalin Frangepán Grammar School
At P. Katalin Frangepán Grammar School, a Hungarian-language private kindergarten and school network, maintaining traditions is an integral part of the educational programme. One of their traditions is to celebrate the Day of Hungarian Culture with the children on 22 January each year. Respecting the fact that in their respective areas, the meeting of several nationalities is observed.
This day has been celebrated since 1989, in memory of the day Ferenc Kölcsey finished writing the Himnusz, which was set to music by Ferenc Erkel and became the legal anthem of the Hungarian nation in 1903.
The teachers of the P. Katalin Frangepán Grammar School feel that it is their duty to acquaint children with these spiritual values and to introduce them to the history and culture of the Hungarian people. They also work on Ukrainian national values, developing their knowledge in parallel. Thus, the Day of Unity of Ukraine was also celebrated on 22 January.
In Ukraine, the Day of Unity has been celebrated every year on 22 January since 1919, when The Unification Act of the Ukrainian People’s Republic and the West Ukrainian People’s Republic was proclaimed.
Day of Unity is celebrated on 22 January to mark the unification of the Ukrainian People’s Republic and the West Ukrainian People’s Republic. “Unity is our strength!”
On this day, the teachers, students and kindergarteners of the P. Katalin Frangepán Grammar School Hungarian-language private kindergarten and school network tried to celebrate the two days in a fitting way. They commemorated the occasion with hymns and poems taught by the teachers.
“The nation lives not only in its language, but also in its traditions.”
